  • interior space of a modern café gallery with concrete flooring and a green wall
Our artist client asked us to design a café in connection to his sculpture workshop. The demand was to create a warm, half-open space attached to the neighborhood. Warm wooden frames in a large glass wall together with wooden beams the glass wall and wooden columns leaning on the concrete wall of the workshop energizes the space left on the concrete floor and with apparent hanging lights on the glass ceiling.

The main idea of the design was to create a contrast by having a transparent and light café against a solid workshop studio space by its side. The gallery for displaying art objects created in the workshop is combined with the entrance area of the café, introducing the workshop to the visitors as well as the passengers outside of the café.

Noisy and messy part of the workshop and its store is surrounded by concrete walls, in contrast to the performance section with glass buffer which artists demonstrate the process of creating their art — enclosed by glasses from all aspects except one, the sitting area of the café functions like a pleasant greenhouse, especially with the wooden elements covering it. Birds can easily fly in and out of the café and sit on the wooden beams of the ceiling.

Variety of plants and flowers can be placed in such an atmosphere, considering the ability to control the temperature and moisture of the greenhouse-like space of the café. Climbing plants such as Ivy were chosen to enhance the greenness of the space and the feeling of contrast between liveliness of wood and solid and cold nature of concrete.

Our architectural visualization team did their best to bring our designers idea to realistic rendering on this project.
